Maddie & Tae Have Decided To End Their Run As A Duo

The country duo, consisting of members Maddie Marlow and Taylor “Tae” Dye Kerr, shared their decision to split in December 2025 during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

The news came as a shock to many fans. After all, the pair had been performing together for over 15 years, and they’re best friends.

When artists go their separate ways after spending so much of their career together, it’s easy to assume something happened between them. But that isn’t the case for Maddie and Tae.

They made it clear they don’t want to call this new chapter a “breakup” because there’s no bad blood between them. In fact, their friendship is as strong as ever.

“It sounds so dramatic, and we don’t want it to feel that way,” Maddie told the outlet. “You’ve seen other duos that break up, and they hate each other and blah-blah-blah. I know the world’s probably ready for us to hate each other, especially because we’re women. That just happens for some reason. And that’s why we want to do it this way, to show what it looks like to be two strong, independent, loving women that…”

… are embarking on separate journeys,” Tae chimed in, adding. “But still together.

So, what’s the real reason the two have decided to split?

Tae shared that she wants to pause her career to focus on her family. And while she takes that step back, Maddie will continue making music as a solo artist.

They shared that they’re keeping the future of Maddie & Tae “open-ended.” Even though they’re calling it quits for now, they may decide the time is right for a reunion sometime down the road.

“We might make another record one day,” Maddie said. “We might go do some tour dates one day… just in this season, it doesn’t feel aligned for us to do it together.”

Maddie & Tae Perform Their Last Show Together

Over the weekend, Maddie & Tae performed their final show together as a duo. Afterwards, they shared a clip on their joint Instagram showing moments from the bittersweet day.

The video ends with an emotional moment as Maddie & Tae pause during their song “Die From a Broken Heart,” and the crowd sings the rest of the lyrics for them.

“surrounded by our family, friends, and all of you, we closed a chapter this weekend that we’ll forever be grateful for,” they wrote in the post’s caption.

“thank you to everyone who traveled to be there with us,” they added. “the emotions were high in the best possible way. fifteen years of memories together… and now we get to cheer each other on in our new seasons of life. nothing but love & light ahead”

Maddie also shared a series of photos on her personal account and made sure to thank her “soul sister” for being by her side all these years.

“Played our last Maddie & Tae show this weekend, and it was the most magical way to close this chapter of life,” she wrote. “To my soul sister @taylorekerr, thank you for giving me the courage to move to Nashville at 17 and chase this dream together for 15 years.”

Maddie continued, “We stayed true to who we were, didn’t compromise our morals or dignity in a yucky business, didn’t stay down and defeated for long, never lost our faith and clung tighter to each other through every low. I am so proud of what we built and our legacy will live on forever. here’s to the closing of this chapter and the beginning of a brand new adventure”

We wish Maddie and Tae the best of luck as they begin their separate journeys!
