“Marshals” Episode 10 Recap: Buried Dutton Secrets Begin To Resurface

Marshals Marks The Next Chapter For Kayce Dutton
Since its premiere on March 1st, fans have been loving the newest Yellowstone spin-off centered solely on Kayce Dutton. Marshals follows John Dutton’s son as he takes a decisive turn in his life, joining an elite team of U.S. Marshals.
A major bombshell was revealed immediately – as Kayce’s beloved wife, Monica, has tragically died from cancer. The episode later reveals that the illness may have been related to toxins dumped by a mine on the Broken Rock Reservation. We learn that this loss has deeply affected Kayce in a profound way as he admits to how her death has gravely impacted his life.
He agrees to join the Marshals team, giving him a renewed sense of purpose. Kayce later visits Monica’s memorial, promising his late wife that he will begin to try again.
Riley Green Makes His Acting Debut
Actor Luke Grimes returned to the role as Kayce as well as Broken Rock chairman Thomas Rainwater (played by Gil Birmingham). The spin-off also welcomed a new cast-member, Logan Marshall-Green, who will play Pete “Cal” Calvin, a close friend from Kayce’s military past.
In episode 7, country fans tuned in to watch country singer Riley Green as he made his big acting debut! Riley plays a troubled cowboy named Garrett.
This is Riley’s first acting role, and it’s a pretty big one to land without prior experience. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the show’s premiere, the singer shared that he was introduced to the opportunity by Luke.
The two are friends in real life and have even worked together before, since Luke is also a country singer. When Riley mentioned his interest in acting, Luke helped connect him with an audition, and from there, everything moved fast.
We learned last week that Garrett may be joining the team on their upcoming missions.

Episode 10 Recap, “Playing With Fire”
On Sunday (May 3), episode 10 of Marshals aired. “Playing with Fire” throws the team into chaos after a prison transport bus crashes.
Belle (Arielle Kebbel) catches Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) blowing off steam with a punching bag and jokingly suggests he’s imagining Miles’ face. Cal brushes it off, insisting his frustration isn’t really about Miles, but rather it’s about Maddie and the complicated dynamic of her dating someone who works under him.
Belle, however, cuts through the tension with some grounded advice. She points out that going easier on Miles might actually help repair Cal’s strained relationship with Maddie.
An inmate transfer is scheduled for later in the afternoon, and Cal asks Belle for her opinion on whether Andrea is ready to return to field duty. Belle feels this assignment is the perfect opportunity to test her readiness in a real-world situation.

Garrett Rushes Into A Burning Structure
Garrett (played by Riley Green) has been settling into his role on the ranch and forming a notable connection with a wild mustang belonging to Monica.
Andrea is met with a round of applause as she arrives back at work, clearly anxious but determined to resume her duties. Belle quickly outlines the day’s assignment: they will be escorting the group of high-risk inmates, including a rapist, an embezzler, and three convicted killers. Andrea is less than thrilled that this is her first assignment back in the field.
Meanwhile, Dolly’s “special project” is revealed to be a birthday celebration Kayce is hosting for Garrett, intended as a quiet gathering with just the team. Any sense of celebration is abruptly shattered when screaming erupts outside. Kayce looks out to see the barn engulfed in flames.
Garrett rushes into the burning structure, pulling horses to safety as explosions rock the interior. In the chaos, Kayce charges toward the scene, narrowly avoiding being struck by a panicked horse. Dousing himself with water, he pushes through the smoke and heat, where he discovers Garrett trapped beneath a collapsed beam.
Later we learn he endured second-degree burns and his lungs are damaged.

A Prisoner Escape Triggers Manhunt
Belle and Andrea later arrive at the prison for the transfer when they learn one of the passengers, Samantha, was imprisoned for a mine collapse in Belle’s hometown.
A guard and the driver are dead and three prisoners escaped. The crash leaves multiple inmates on the loose, instantly triggering a high-stakes manhunt across the region. With several fugitives escaping in different directions, the Marshals must divide and conquer.
Belle withholds important information in that Samantha is her mother. We learn that she harbors long-standing resentment toward her mother, believing she was responsible for her father’s death.

Dutton Secrets Begin To Resurface
The situation takes a dire turn when Samantha sustains life-threatening injuries during the transport. Belle ends up helping save her mother’s life aboard the bus. With no immediate medical support available, a doctor among the prisoners guides her step by step through emergency care, stabilizing Samantha.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the unfolding chaos, a separate prisoner situation threatens to expose long-buried secrets tied to the Yellowstone ranch. Neil, played by Sterling Jones, is a former Yellowstone ranch hand identified by a brand on his chest, marking him as someone who once belonged to the Dutton operation.
Neil’s knowledge of the ranch runs deep, including references to the infamous “Train Station”. He leverages that information against Kayce, offering silence in exchange for safe passage across state lines.
For a moment, Kayce considers eliminating the threat entirely to protect his family. But just as the situation reaches its breaking point, Cal arrives in the freezing mountain terrain, interrupting what could have become a fatal decision.
Neil is left alive (for now) but the standoff leaves the Duttons’ secrets more vulnerable than ever.
