In 2019, Netflix announced that they ordered an adult animated action comedy series titled Agent King. The series will follow Elvis Presley as he navigates being the King of Rock and Roll while also being part of a “a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he love.”

Priscilla Presley has a role as Executive Producer, and when the show was first announced, she said, “From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world! ‘Agent King’ lets him do just that. My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”

Two years after the original announcement, a little progress had been made…but no show yet. Priscilla gave fans an update on October 19, 2021. She tweeted, “We are still working on Agent King diligently. It should be released in 2o22!”

Some fans weren’t sure what the show was about, so she cleared the air. She wrote, “For those asking about Agent King, it’s an adult animated alternate reality action comedy series coming to Netflix in 2022!”

Well, 2022 came and went, and we heard no more updates about the show. Now, in the second month of 2023, we finally get an update, and it’s HUGE.

Not only did we get the first trailer for the show, we also found out there was a title change – it is know titled Agent Elvis. They also announced who is voicing Elvis and when it will premiere on Netflix! Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is voicing the titular Agent Elvis and the show will be on Netflix in March 2023.

The actor celebrated his role in the series, and the show, on Twitter, writing, “Elvis Presley always dreamed of being a superhero — now, Priscilla Presley is making his dream a reality!”

Fans chimed in, saying McConaughey doesn’t sound like Elvis Presley, but we think that’s the point. It’s an alternate reality. Elvis Presley was never a secret agent or a spy, so why should the secret agent/spy Elvis sound like the singer Elvis?

We think Elvis would love seeing himself fight crime. See the trailer below.
