Matthew McConaughey Gives “Choosin’ Texas” A Bluegrass Twist – See Ella’s Reaction

Matthew McConaughey stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (August 12) and they performed a bluegrass rendition of Ella Langley’s history-making song.
Matthew McConaughey Sings Bluegrass In His New Movie
The Academy Award-winning actor is promoting his new movie, The Rivals of Amziah King, where he plays a beekeeper and bluegrass musician named Amziah King.
Amziah faces challenges when his estranged former foster daughter, played by newcomer Angelina LookingGlass, comes back into his life. At the same time, a local drug kingpin (Kurt Russel), threatens Amziah’s honey business.
The movie also stars Scott Shepherd, Rob Morgan, Tony Revolori, and Cole Sprouse and is set to hit theaters on August 14.
To promote the film, McConaughey has been performing with the band he plays with in the movie, The Last Bison. The bluegrass and folk band are a real band comprised of Ben Hardesty and Amos Housworth.
In the movie, McConaughey and The Last Bison perform the band’s real song “Quills,” which they first wrote when they were 18 or 19 years old, 17 years ago.
McConaughey Stopped By The Tonight Show To Perform “Choosin’ Texas”
Every now and then, The Tonight Show goes through their Audience Suggestion Box and comply with some of the outlandish suggestions the audience has cooked up for them.
But sometimes, the suggestion is so genius that the segment goes absolutely viral.
On Wednesday night’s (August 13) show, host Jimmy Fallon pulled out the suggestion box and ended the segment with a suggestion from an audience member named Belina May, who wrote:
“Hey Jimmy, I love that song ‘Choosin’ Texas’ by Ella Langley and I’m really excited to see Matthew McConaughey’s new movie, The Rivals of Amziah King, where he performs in a bluegrass band. If there was only a way to combine those things, that would be a dream come true.”
Without a beat, Fallon introduced Matthew McConaughey and The Last Bison to perform “Choosin’ Texas!”
Of course, Fallon had to get in on the fun, so he ran from his desk, put on a vest and hat, grabbed a washboard, and joined the actor and band on stage!
McConaughey sang lead, while Fallon provided harmonies alongside the bluegrass band.
Ella Langley Responded
Not only did Ella Langley watch the performance, she also commented on the video on Instagram, simply writing, “OMG,” which stand for “Oh my gosh.”
Additionally, she shared the video on her Instagram Story and wrote, “I may never recover from this.”
