Matthew McConaughey Hasn’t Worn Deodorant In 35 Years, “Smells Like Granola”

We all love Matthew McConaughey, but the latest news about his use of deodorant has us scratching our heads. Thankfully a recent interview with a former co-star put our minds at ease about his hygiene.

In a 2005 interview for People’s Sexiest Man Alive cover, the actor revealed that he hadn’t used deodorant in 20 years and instead opted to go with his own natural scent, saying that “a man should smell like a man.”

In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, McConaughey’s Tropic Thunder co-star Yvette Nicole Brown recalled filming with the star in 2008 and doing her best to get close enough to him to see what he smells like sans deodorant.

“I remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didn’t have an odor. So my first thought was, ‘I’m going to get as close as I can to him to see if he’s right,'” she said.

“He did not have an odor. He smells like granola and good livin’. He has a sweet, sweet scent that is just him and it’s not musty or crazy.”

The 51-year-old actor isn’t alone when it comes to embracing his au naturale scent. Actress Julia Roberts once confessed to Oprah that deodorant has “just never been my thing.” Fellow big screen star Cameron Diaz also revealed that she hadn’t used deodorant in more than two decades.

“I don’t believe in antiperspirant. It’s really bad for you. I haven’t used it for almost 20 years,” Diaz told E! News in 2014. “You’re stinky, because you use antiperspirant. It keeps all the stink in.”

Perhaps if we all smelled like “granola and good livin'” like Matthew McConaughey we’d be more likely to go without deodorant too!
