The Fisher Family Grows

When Carrie Underwood announced in August that she and husband Mike Fisher were expecting their second child together, she made it clear she didn’t know if she was having a boy or a girl.

Fans were certain she was having a girl, based on how much pink she was wearing when she was out and about. But Carrie maintained she was just into the color at the time.

Carrie and Mike eventually learned the gender of their second child in September, but kept it a secret for a while. Already parents to almost four-year-old son Isaiah, the couple eventually revealed in November they were expecting a second boy.

They shared the news in a pretty comical way. Just like she did when she was pregnant with Isaiah, Carrie made her gender reveal part of her opening segment with CMA Awards co-host Brad Paisley.

Carrie & Mike Picked Out A Name Months Ago

But before the public knew that Baby Fisher #2 was going to be a boy, Carrie and Mike had already picked out a name for their little one. While walking the red carpet at the CMT Artists of the Year event in October (where she was an honoree), Carrie shared that she and Mike had settled on a name for their new addition.

However, since they hadn’t revealed they were having a son at that time, she said they were keeping the name a secret for the time being. We have picked out a name, but we’re keeping that to ourselves right now,” she said.

In the case of Isaiah, the Fishers didn’t reveal his name until after he was born. That’s the same pattern they followed with their second son, who finally made his grand arrival on Monday (January 21).

A joyful Carrie announced the news by sharing a series of three pictures of her newborn son. She also revealed his name…Jacob Bryan Fisher.

Sons’ Names Reflect Couple’s Shared Faith

So what’s the meaning behind the little guy’s name? Well, his moniker follows a pattern that Carrie and Mike established nearly four years ago when they named his big brother.

Both Carrie and Mike are devoted to their faith, and have never shied from expressing it. In fact, Mike even reflected on Jacob’s birth by calling him “a gift from our Lord.”

Since their faith means so much to them, it makes sense why the Fishers chose Biblical names for both of their sons. Isaiah is named after the prophet Isaiah, the namesake of the Book of Isaiah.

As for Jacob, his name is in honor of the regarded patriarch of the Israelites, with his life story being told in the Book of Genesis.

What About Middle Names?

When it comes to middle names, Mike and Carrie kept it in the family with their choice for Isaiah. His middle name is Michael, which is, of course, Mike’s first name.

But what about Jacob’s middle name, Bryan? It seems possible that could be a family name as well, but no obvious sources emerge. Perhaps Carrie will clue us in some day and share why she and Mike settled on that as their son’s middle name!

Only time will tell how much Carrie and Mike will be willing to share about Jacob as he grows. They were a bit hesitant to share photos of Isaiah during his younger years, but delighted fans with a bunch of previously never-before-seen snapshots in Carrie’s music video for “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted.”

You can catch that precious video below.

Regardless of the meaning behind it, we think Bryan is the perfect middle name to accompany Jacob. The little guy is going to be surrounded by lots of love!
