On Thursday, March 19, news broke that actor and martial artist Chuck Norris was hospitalized in Hawaii. Reports claimed he had been staying and training on the island of Kauai when he experienced some sort of medical emergency.
But the true severity of the situation was initially unclear to the public.
Sadly, the following day, (March 20), Norris’ family released a statement confirming he passed away on the 19th. He had just celebrated his 86th birthday the week prior, on March 10.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace,” the family shared in their statement, which they posted on Norris’ social media pages.

Norris’ survivors include his wife of 27 years, Gena O’Kelley, and his five children: Mike, Eric, Dakota, Danilee, and Dina. He was also a beloved grandfather and brother.
“While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him,” his family shared after his passing. “The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”
Norris’ family closed their statement with a request for privacy so they could grieve their loss out of the public eye. They have voiced their desire to keep the cause and circumstances of his death to themselves.
Chuck Norris’ Family Releases New Statement Following His Death
Chuck Norris’ family shared a new statement on Monday, April 27, just a little over a month after his death. Their moving message contained a heartfelt “thank you” to Norris’ devoted fans.
“From Chuck Norris’s family, we’d like to thank you for all the love and support you’ve shown during this difficult time,” the family wrote. “It truly means more to us than we can express. Seeing how much he meant to all of you and the countless lives he impacted has been incredibly meaningful to our family.”
Norris’ family ended their latest statement with a promise. They vowed to keep his legacy alive “by sharing his life, values, and the moments that defined who he was.”
They wanted his fans to know that he “truly appreciated every single one of you and never took that support for granted.”
The family’s message received over 115,000 “likes” and more than 2,000 comments within 24 hours of its posting on Instagram.
