Dolly Parton Passed Away On August 25
Dolly Parton’s family confirmed that she passed away on August 25th following a brief battle with cancer.
“Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by [her late husband] Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens,” her nephew Bryan Seaver said in a statement.
As soon as news came out of her passing, tributes began pouring in for the woman who paved the way for so many and served as an inspiration for countless artists.
Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Vince Gill, Carrie Underwood, and so many more took to social media to pay their respects and tell their personal stories involving Dolly.
One person that fans were waiting to hear from was Miley Cyrus, who has a deep connection to the late legend, as Dolly was her godmother.
One day after the legend’s passing, Miley posted a simple black and white photo of her Aunt Dolly and wrote:
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
She revealed one of their last conversations was about metamorphosis, and how she now knows that she has an angel by her side.
She ended her tribute writing, “I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
Miley Returns To The Stage & Tearfully Honors Dolly
On October 16th and 18th, Miley made her triumphant return to the stage after taking a four-year hiatus from performing live.
Sitting on the stage in a simple black outfit, Miley tearfully told the crowd, “I only got to see Dolly Parton live in concert one time in my entire life and it was here. I spend a lot of time backstage and if she had it her way, when she was playing a show, I’d be standing right beside her in a matching costume. And so, when I was coming to the show at the Bowl to see her, I said, ‘You know, I would love a night where I could just experience you, I could just enjoy you like the rest of the world.”
Miley revealed that during that performance, Dolly opened the show with the theme song to Hannah Montana, the Disney show that made Miley a superstar.
“I feel her now, more than ever,” Cyrus said. “I’m going to see her again and I can’t f*cking wait ’cause I miss her.”
After her monologue, she tearfully performed “Jolene,” with the crowd helping her out during the chorus every so often.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the entire Hollywood Bowl during her performance. Watch it below.
