NASCAR fans were left in shock after one of their favorite drivers, Alex Bowman, suffered a terrifying crash that broke his spine. The veteran driver was celebrating his 30th birthday on Tuesday evening when disaster struck while racing in a Dirt Midget and Sprint car event at 34 Raceway in Iowa.

Bowman was immediately taken to the hospital by medics, and scans revealed that he had suffered a fractured vertebra. The setback means that the driver will need at least four weeks to recover fully from the injuries sustained in the crash.
