NASCAR Driver Hospitalized After Scary Crash At Talladega

NASCAR driver Blaine Perkins remains hospitalized after a terrifying wreck during Saturday’s (April 22, 2023) Xfinity Series race at Talladega.

The wreck occurred on the 49th lap of the race. Perkins was in 33rd place when he was hit by Dexter Stacey. Video of the incident shows Perkins car being clipped by Stacey before hitting the backstretch wall head-on. The car then got flipped over when Jade Buford’s car hit it in the side, sending it barrel rolling down the track. Perkin’s car rolled at least six times before coming to a stop.

Perkins was able to climb from the mangled car and was taken to the infield care center. Perkins was transported to a local hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” NASCAR announced.The race was red flagged for almost minutes. NASCAR said that Perkins, who was making his 21st career start in the series, would be taken to a local hospital “out of an abundance of caution”.

Commentators called the crash “one of the scariest we’ve seen in a long time.”

Blaine Perkins’ family released a statement Sunday morning updating fans on his condition.

“Blaine is alert, in good spirits, and continues to be observed at a local hospital. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.”

Critical Path Security founder and NASCAR sponsor Patrick Kelley got a closer look at Blaine Perkins’ car following the crash. The details he observed made it clear that Perkins was fortunate to have walked away from Saturday’s crash.
