In the hours after the passing of legendary country and folk musician John Prine, many fellow artists have taken to social media to share their grief, memories, and music in honor of him.

One of these artists was none other than Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines – who shared a song from Prine’s lengthy career and was joined by her two young sons.

Singing Prine’s 1971 hit, “Angel From Montgomery,” Maines sang and strummed her guitar while her two kids, Slade and Beckett, played alongside her.

“My kids got introduced to John Prine tonight and helped me do a tribute,” Maines captioned the video. “I <3 John Prine. R.I.P.”

“Angel From Montgomery” was first recorded and released by Prine in 1971, but it was such a powerful and compelling song that many other artists recorded their own versions of it, including Carly Simon (feat. James Taylor), John Denver, Bonnie Raitt, Tanya Tucker, Dave Matthews Band, and Brandi Carlile among many others.

Watch Natalie Maines and her two young sons perform this unforgettable hit song from John Prine’s legacy in the video below.

May he rest in peace.
