New Details On “Country Strong” Actor’s Arrest Emerge

In 2010, Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw teamed up to play married couple Kelly and James Canter for the hit movie Country Strong. Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund joined them as up and coming country artists Chiles Stanton and Beau Hutton, respectively.

Their characters were opening for mega-famous country singer Kelly Cantor, Gwyneth Paltrow’s character, on her comeback tour after she leaves rehab early. Cantor’s career is likened to the popularity Faith Hill and Shania Twain once had at their prime, but her downfall isn’t compared to any country star. She had lots of bad things happen to her, all mostly due to her alcoholism. Her husband/manager, played by McGraw, takes her out of rehab early to perform on a country-wide tour even though she wasn’t ready yet.

Paltrow debuted her singing talent, and so did Meester and Hedlund. Paltrow was praised for her performance, as was the music in the film. The song “Coming Home,” performed by Paltrow, was nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, and a few other notable awards. Paltrow even performed the song at the 83rd Academy Awards, but it lost out to Toy Story 3‘s “We Belong Together.”

On Sunday (Jan 23), TMZ reported that one of the stars of Country Strong was arrested for public intoxication in Franklin County, Tennessee. He has since been released on a $2,100 bond and is due in court in March.

His latest arrest comes days after it was announced that he and longtime girlfriend, actress Emma Roberts, had split up.

They will be co-parenting their son Rhodes Robert Hedlund, who was born in December 2020.

Now, a few days after the arrest, TMZ has obtained legal documents, revealing new details about the arrest. According to the publication, police got a call around 10:30pm from a man claiming that Hedlund was banging on a door of a building. When police arrived, Hedlund told them he left personal items in the building and was trying to get them back. The actor allegedly smelled of alcohol, was slurring his speech, wasn’t following police commands, and due to those things, police wrote in their report that they believe Hedlund was a “danger to himself and others.”

The man who called the police told them that Hedlund had kicked and tried to punch him and attempted to jump out of a car earlier in the day. He said he didn’t want to press criminal charges.

This isn’t the first time he’s had issues with alcohol. He is currently being sued for a January 2020 incident where he passed out and crashed into a car with a woman and her three kids. The same night, he was arrested for a DUI and placed on three years probation. His latest arrest could pose a problem, since he is not supposed to break any laws while on probation.

We wish nothing but the best for Hedlund, and hope he can get the help he needs. He and two-time co-star Tim McGraw seem to still be close, seeing as the country singer is Hedlund’s baby’s godfather. McGraw has been sober for many years, so maybe he can lend a helping hand.
