“Old Town Road” Singer, Lil Nas X, Hospitalized Then Booked On Misdemeanor Charges

Lil Nas X was briefly hospitalized for a possible drug overdose before being booked on misdemeanor charges Thursday.
Los Angeles police officers responded to a call about a man “nude in the street” early Thursday morning (August 21). TMZ reported that numerous passersby called authorities to report a possible overdose.
When police arrived, they reportedly found Lil Nas X, whose birth name is Montero Lamar Hill, wearing only his underwear and a pair of white boots. The rapper eventually stripped completely before lunging at an officer.
A spokesperson for the LAPD told PEOPLE that the star went on to “batter an officer.”
Lil Nas X was transported to the hospital for treatment. Upon his release, he was charged with battery on a police officer. He is currently being held without bail at the Van Nuys jail on the outskirts of Los Angeles.
Lil Nas X rose to success in 2018 with the release of “Old Town Road.”
In late 2018, Lil Nas X released the country rap tune “Old Town Road.” A few months later, the song went viral on TikTok thanks to the artist’s videos shared on the platform and amassed more than 67 million views.
The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at #83, eventually reaching #1. The success of the tune led to a record deal for Lil Nas X, and he signed with Columbia Records in March 2019.
Later that year, country legend Billy Ray Cyrus appeared on a remix of “Old Town Road.” The collab earned the duo numerous awards, including two BET Hip Hop Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and a CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year.
In April 2019, Lil Nas X shattered the record for most song streams in one week with 143 million streams. The record was previously held by Drake’s “In My Feelings” which had 116.2 million streams.
To date, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s music video for “Old Town Road” has more than 1.4 billion views on YouTube.
