This impromptu performance took place at the location of the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Virginia. The event canceled its last two days because of severe weather.
According to Rolling Stone, lightning, hail, and strong winds prompted the festival to cancel midway through the event. After Blue Ridge canceled its last two days, Anthony, Papa Roach, and Shinedown wanted to entertain fans still on the festival grounds.
The artists set up a makeshift stage and delivered an acoustic performance. A crowd gathered to watch them sing. One highlight of their performance was a cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, “Simple Man.”
One week prior, Anthony shared a fireside cover of “Simple Man.” The video of his performance has over 3.4 million views at the time of this writing.

The members of Shinedown happen to be quite familiar with “Simple Man” too. They covered the song in 2004.
Shinedown’s version of “Simple Man” reached #5 on the Mainstream Rock chart. It also peaked at the 40th position on the Alternative Airplay chart.
Shinedown’s lead singer Brent Smith led the charge as his band, Papa Roach, and Anthony covered “Simple Man” at Blue Ridge. The crowd sang along with the group the whole time. Some dogs even made their way onstage to join in the fun!
Anthony shared a video of their performance on his official YouTube page. At the time of this writing, that video has well over 500,000 views since it was posted on September 9.
