Soap Opera Star Patrick Muldoon Passed Away On April 19
Patrick Muldoon’s cause of death has been disclosed following his unexpected passing at the age of 57.
Muldoon was known for his roles in soap operas such as Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, and for his unforgettable performance in the 1997 film Starship Troopers. Many of his fans also adored his roles in holiday movies such as A Boyfriend for Christmas and A Christmas Reunion.
On April 19, Muldoon’s manager confirmed with Variety that the actor died earlier that day. His passing was unexpected, and Deadline initially reported that he died of a heart attack.
Muldoon’s sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, shared some insight into his final moments during a conversation with TMZ. He enjoyed some coffee with his girlfriend, Miriam Rothbart, on the morning of his death, before he left to take a shower.
After a significant amount of time had passed, Rothbart went to check on Muldoon. She discovered that he was unconscious on the bathroom floor. Paramedics attempted to save Muldoon after responding to the scene, but sadly, he passed away.
Patrick Muldoon’s Cause Of Death Disclosed
Patrick Muldoon’s cause of death was released on Wednesday, April 29…exactly 20 days after his passing.
PEOPLE got the chance to review Muldoon’s death certificate, which listed a “myocardial infarction” as his official cause of death. A myocardial infarction is more commonly known as a heart attack, so this confirms what was originally reported by Deadline after Muldoon died.
Additionally, the death certificate lists “pulmonary embolism and hereditary coagulopathy” as underlying causes that contributed to Muldoon’s death.
As the Mayo Clinic explains, a pulmonary embolism “is a blood clot that blocks and stops blood flow to an artery in the lung.”
The Cleveland Clinic describes coagulopathy as a condition that “happens when there’s a problem with how your blood forms clots.” Causes of this condition can include bleeding disorders such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease.
The death certificate shows that Muldoon’s body was cremated on April 28.
Muldoon’s survivors include his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa; his brother-in-law, Ahmet Zappa; his niece, Halo Zappa; and his nephew, Arrow Zappa.
