Vince Gill Celebrates 35 Years As An Opry Member

The Grand Ole Opry celebrated Vince Gill’s 35th anniversary on Saturday (October 17) with an emotional concert featuring performances from some of the people closest to the country music legend.

Gill was officially inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on August 10, 1991, by country music legend Roy Acuff. Since then, he’s shared countless memories in the beloved Opry circle, performing hundreds of times over the years.

One of the most special performances of the evening came from Gill’s longtime friend and collaborator, Patty Loveless. Loveless rarely performs these days, so the appearance was certainly a treat for the Opry crowd.

Gill and Loveless have shared a close friendship for decades. The two have often referred to each other as “siblings” and have worked together on several occasions.

Their relationship dates all the way back to the 1980s, and one of their most notable collaborations came in 1999 when they recorded “My Kind of Woman, My Kind of Man.” The duet went on to win the Country Music Association’s Vocal Event of the Year award.

Before Loveless took the stage, Gill shared a memorable story with Dolly Parton when she stepped in for his longtime duet partner during an awards show performance.

According to Gill, Parton stepped in for Loveless that night, filling in for his usual duet partner. After their performance, Parton jokingly admitted she was “no Patty Loveless,” before turning the tables on Gill and telling him he was “no Porter Wagoner” either.

Gill then introduced Loveless, and the two took the stage to perform their duet, “My Kind of Woman, My Kind of Man.” Loveless told Gill she wouldn’t have missed the special night for anything.
