The new Elvis movie is a smash success.

According to Variety, the film earned $31.1 million at the domestic box office over its opening weekend. In doing so, it became the new #1 film at the box office, beating out Top Gun: Maverick to take the top spot. Top Gun: Maverick had been the #1 movie in the U.S. every week since its release on May 27.

When Priscilla Presley heard that Elvis was the #1 movie in the nation, she was overjoyed. She congratulated the cast on a job well done:

CONGRATULATIONS, BAZ, CM, AUSTIN, TOM HANKS, OLIVIA, CAST and CREW! ELVIS hit number ONE over Top Gun Maverick!!!!” Priscilla wrote in a post on Facebook. “I’m all tears with happiness. ELVIS is BACK!!!!!!”

Elvis‘ ex-wife has been a vocal supporter of the film and its cast. She saw the movie several times before it was in theaters, and gave it her seal of approval.

Once the movie was released, Priscilla snuck into a theater to see how the audience reacted to it:

All through the movie, it was so quiet, you could literally hear a pin drop,” Priscilla wrote on Facebook about her experience in the theater. “After the movie, there was clapping, teary eyes and chattering from those wanting to see it again.”

In that post, Priscilla said she “can’t stress enough how important this film is in order to keep Elvis, not only in our hearts, but also to give our friends, children, teenagers, elders and those who never got the experience to see him.”

We’d say the film has certainly revived people’s interest in Elvis again! Watch one of its trailers below.
