Kevin Costner’s Two-Part Western Horizon: An American Saga to Hit Theaters Next Summer
Kevin Costner is a man who wears many hats. This summer, the Academy Award-winning actor will star in a two-part Western Epic of which he was also director and co-writer. The film is planned to be released in two chapters, on June 28, 2024, and August 16, 2024, respectively.
This week, Warner Bros. Pictures dropped the movie poster and a teaser trailer for the film. While only the first two chapters of the saga have been publicized, the story is planned to be comprised of four total parts.
The dramatic teaser video shows Costner riding a horse through a barren landscape, turning, and firing a gun – potentially at something chasing him. It lists many cast members alongside Costner himself: Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson… and more.
Horizon Chronicles the Expansion and Settlement of the American West
The official description of Horizon says it “explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”
Kevin Costner Returns to the Civil War Backdrop
With Yellowstone behind him, Costner has shifted his focus to creating Horizon, which he says he’s wanted to make for decades.
The film is set in post-Civil War America similar to Dances With Wolves (1990), which earned Costner the Best Director prize at the 1991 Oscars, along with six other Academy Awards.
