On Tuesday, October 13, Rhett Akins became the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. His induction ceremony was held on an already special day, his 57th birthday!

Opry members Jamey Johnson and Jon Pardi inducted Rhett into country music’s most iconic “family” that evening. It was sort of a full-circle moment, as Jon had been the artist to extend the Opry invitation to Rhett four months earlier.

Rhett celebrated his new status as an Opry member by performing one of his most popular songs, “That Ain’t My Truck.” He released the track in 1995 as the third single off his debut album, A Thousand Memories.

“That Ain’t My Truck” peaked at #3 on the Hot Country Songs chart and also claimed the 7th spot on the country chart in Canada.

Several of Rhett’s famous friends joined him in singing “That Ain’t My Truck,” turning the moment into a fun ’90s country sing-along. Jon and Jamey stuck around, and Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean also jumped in.

The group was joined by another special person in Rhett’s life…his son, Thomas Rhett, who’s also a country artist. Thomas had only been five years old when “That Ain’t My Truck” was released, and he’s now 36.

Tune in to the video below to watch Thomas Rhett, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Jon Pardi, and Jamey Johnson sing “That Ain’t My Truck” with Rhett Akins at the Opry. They looked like they were having a blast!

Rhett Akins & His Son Thomas Rhett Have Written Tons Of Hits Together

Rhett Akins hasn’t released a new solo single since 2009 and has been more focused on songwriting. He wrote or co-wrote some of the biggest hits in country music the past two decades, including:

Rhett has also collaborated with his son, Thomas Rhett, on several occasions. They’ve co-written some of Thomas’ most successful singles, including “Life Changes,” “It Goes Like This,” “Look What God Gave Her,” and “What’s Your Country Song.”

Additionally, Rhett and Thomas recorded a song together in 2017 called “Drink a Little Beer.” The song was featured on Thomas’ album Life Changes, and was written by Rhett, Jesse Frasure, and Ben Hayslip. Give it a listen below.

After his dad was inducted into the Opry, Thomas shared how proud he is of him, writing:

“My dad’s only dream since he was a child came true last night. Congratulations to the greatest to ever do it. I was honored to be a part of it. Love ya dad.”

We also want to congratulate Rhett on his Opry induction! Hoepfully he had the best night celebrating with his family and friends!
