Riley Green was the perfect choice to step in as a new coach on The Voice.

Season 30 of The Voice is set to premiere this fall, and the singing competition is bringing in an exciting lineup of coaches.

Viewers will see Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson return after their time on Season 29. Rapper and actress Queen Latifah and country star Riley Green will be making their debut in the famous red chairs.

Fans have always loved having a country artist on the coaching panel. In fact, country coaches are often some of the most popular picks when contestants choose their teams.

They’ve also had a lot of success on the show. For example, Blake Shelton was on The Voice for 23 seasons and holds the record with 9 wins. Reba McEntire has also experienced what victory feels like when she won Season 25 with her artist, Asher HaVon.

So, bringing someone in like Riley Green to fill that country spot makes a lot of sense. But how did he end up getting picked as a coach over everyone else?

Well, according to him, there were two things that really helped him land the role.

How Riley Green Became A Voice Coach

Riley Green recently appeared on Country Countdown USA, where he talked about his new role as a coach on The Voice.

During the interview, he shared what helped him stand out and the main reason he was chosen for the job.

“There were mentions that there was interest that I might be a possible candidate,” Green recalled. “We were in LA and I did a show at the Grammy Museum, and we did a Q&A before the show. We had a good rapport, and that got me the job.”

He said the show was looking for someone with a similar personality to Blake Shelton, and he apparently fit the bill.

Green added that another thing that caught the attention of The Voice team was his interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last year, where he ended up teaching the host how to do a duck call.

“Those two things got me the job,” Green said.

Filming for Season 39 hasn’t started yet, but Green has already connected with some of his fellow coaches.

Last month, Clarkson surprised him with a voicemail welcoming him to the show. She made it clear that she’s coming in ready to compete and has her sights set on winning.

Green also got the chance to meet Queen Latifah right before she hosted the American Music Awards last week.

Needless to say, she was a big fan of the “Worst Way” singer. When asked about their first meeting, Latifah’s reaction said it all as she broke into a few lines of “Whatta Man.”
