Country Singer Chris Young Arrested In Nashville On January 22

Two-time Grammy-nominated country artist Chris Young was arrested at Nashville’s DawgHouse Saloon on Monday (January 22). Initial reports about Young’s arrest cite details from the affidavit.

The affidavit describes how agents with the Alcoholic Beverage Commission first encountered Young sitting at the bar of Nashville’s Tin Roof around 8:30 PM. The agents completed a compliance check at Tin Roof, and asked to check Young’s identification.

Then, the affidavit says Young “…started asking questions at that time” and the agents answered him, then he “began video recording [the agents].”

The agents left Tin Roof and went next door to the DawgHouse Saloon. According to the affidavit, “Mr. Young and multiple friends followed us to the bar and began talking to people at the bar and the bartender.”

All of the agents went to the back of the bar to check ABC cards, licenses “designed to ensure that all persons serving and selling alcohol have a basic set of facts.”

After checking the cards, the agents went to leave.

What Happened Leading Up To The Arrest?

According to the affidavit, Young tried to stop the officers from leaving the bar. As the affidavit reads:

“While walking to the door, Mr. Young put his hands out to stop me from leaving the bar and st[r]uck me on the shoulder,” the agent wrote. “I then pushed Mr. Young to create distance since I had no idea who Mr. Young was or what he had. Once that happened, most of the patrons of the bar got up and got between TABC agents and Mr. Young and began yelling and screaming.”

The affidavit claims one agent tried talking to Young, but he “began walking backwards” and didn’t comply with the agent’s orders. Two agents “had to physically detain Mr. Young to put him in hand cuffs.”

Agents arrested Young after the incident. Court documents show he was charged with three misdemeanors: Disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer. He is scheduled to appear in court regarding these charges on February 16.

Newly Released Security Footage Shows Different Perspective Of Incident That Led To Chris Young’s Arrest

Reporter Nick Beres with the Newschannel5 Network obtained security footage from the DawgHouse Saloon on the night of Young’s arrest. Beres released this footage on Tuesday (January 23).

Beres provides commentary and more details in the caption. As you watch the video, you see Young reach out and touch one of the agents. Then, the agent pushes Young, and he falls to the floor. According to another video obtained by PEOPLE, Young “fell backward over a table and chairs.

Beres says, “He is waiting to ask the men why they took a photo of his ID and reaches out to ask the agent to stop to talk. The agent then shoves Young knocking him to the floor.”

The reporter also spoke with Young’s lawyer, who said:

According to Young’s lawyer all his client wanted to do was to confirm the identity of the men — who were not in obvious uniforms … and ask about the photo of his ID.

Beres added:

His lawyer tells me what happened to his client in the Dawg House was wrong … that he never should have been arrested … and that ABC should drop the charges and apologize.”

After seeing the footage, hundreds of fans rushed to defend Young. Some of the comments on Beres’ post were:

“Hope he gets all charges dropped and should after reviewing video!!!”

“Now we know what really happened. Thank you for the videos and the post explaining it all.”

“He should not have been arrested. Praying he gets all charges dropped.”

“My son worked for Chris for A couple of years on tour and I was shocked when I heard the story! Totally out of character for the Chris young I know! I was hoping there was more to this story!”

“This paints the real story. Chris was not in the wrong here.”

“This makes much more sense to me. Could not see CY disrespecting any officers.”

Beres included two additional clips in the comments of his post, which show the same incident from different angles. You can watch the main video below.

Young has not released his own statement about the arrest as of press time.
