Skydiving Plane Carrying 20 Crashes South Of Nashville

An airplane carrying 20 individuals crashed shortly after takeoff from Tullahoma Regional Airport in Tennessee on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities reported that a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter departed from the airport, located roughly 60 miles south of Nashville, around 2:30 p.m. and encountered unknown issues that caused it to hit trees and crash into the ground.
The city of Tullahoma shared a statement on Facebook regarding injuries, saying that three individuals were transported to local hospitals via helicopter, one was taken for medical treatment by ambulance, and others with minor injuries were treated at the scene.
“No ground facilities or airport facilities were damaged, and no injuries were reported from the ground,” the statement read.
Authorities held a press conference later in the day and shared an update on the status of the passengers.
“After emergency services arrived, three people were then LifeFlighted to one of the area Nashville hospitals for additional care. Four of those on the plane have been sent to our local hospital, Vanderbilt University Harton Hospital, for treatment, as well. Those that remained on the plane were assessed and cared for by emergency EMT and given any kind of treatment that they needed for what seemed to be a lot of, as you would expect, bumps and bruises and those types of things,” Tullahoma City Administrator Jason Quick said.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft was a skydiving plane, but it is unclear if those aboard were skydivers. The FAA is already on the scene and investigating the crash.
