State Department Warns Americans Traveling & Living Abroad
The United States State Department has issued a warning to Americans living and traveling out of the country.
On Saturday (July 18), the agency issued a worldwide security alert, warning those who are abroad to remain vigilant amid heightened security concerns and increased threats against U.S. diplomatic facilities.
Just a few days prior, the department issued a Level 4 warning to a number of countries. A Level 4 advisory is the State Department’s highest travel warning and urges Americans not to travel to the listed country or region due to extreme safety risks.
The agency encouraged U.S. citizens to monitor local news for breaking developments and follow security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
“Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation,” the State Department wrote.
Officials also warned that flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures could disrupt travel.
“Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world,” they continued.

The warning comes as two U.S. service members were killed and a third remains missing after an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack in Jordan on Friday (July 17).
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) shared that the troops were defending U.S. and partner forces when they came under fire. Four additional service members were injured and later treated and released, while others with minor injuries returned to duty. The identities of the fallen have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
