Season 30 of The Voice has been full of surprises. The milestone season kicked off on September 21 with coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green at the helm.

The show introduced a new button during the blind auditions, called the “First In” button, which replaced the traditional “Block.” This button gave each coach the power to automatically claim a contestant for their team if they were the first to turn their chair.

Another major change is coming to the show following the end of the Battles on October 26. A new format is replacing the typical Knockout and Playoff rounds.

The new phase of the competition is called “Cut Week.” An article on the NBC website explains how this phase will work, and it’s unlike anything The Voice has done before.

“Cut Week” will be featured in the episode of The Voice that airs on Monday, November 2. This will be the last phase of the competition before the Live Shows begin on November 9.

The Knockouts and Playoffs will not occur this season.

What Will Happen During “Cut Week” On The Voice?

There are currently seven artists on each of the four coaches’ teams. During Cut Week, every coach will pick two contestants to send to the Live Shows.

The five contestants the coaches don’t select will compete for the third and final spot on their Live Shows team.

After the Top 12 is established, viewers can step in and vote for one extra artist (from any team) they want to see in the Live Shows. The contestant with the most votes will continue in the competition.

Cut Week has been dubbed the “biggest elimination” in Voice history. That label seems fitting, since 28 contestants will enter the phase and only 13 will advance past it.

The Voice Also Changed Its Schedule

As if introducing a new round wasn’t a big enough change, The Voice altered its schedule midway through the season.

The show announced that it will no longer air episodes on Tuesday nights as it did earlier in Season 30. From this point forward, the show will only air once a week, on Monday evenings.

This schedule change made room for NBA on NBC to air on Tuesday nights in place of The Voice.

Plus, starting with Cut Week on November 2, The Voice will shift from airing at 8 PM ET to 9 PM ET. This time change will remain in effect through the remainder of the season, which ends on December 14.
