Country music icon Toby Keith has faced a challenging journey since revealing his battle with stomach cancer, but despite the struggle, he continues to have a positive mindset and strong faith.
Keith started his cancer treatment in the fall of 2021, and over the past few years he has undergone surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. Fast forward to today, Keith is still undergoing treatment.
In a recent interview, Keith shared insights into his cancer battle, acknowledging the uncertainty of its outcome.
“Cancer is a roller coaster, so it’s like, you just sit here and wait on it to go away, and it may not ever go away,” he explained.
Even as he continues his treatments, Keith remains hopeful but realistic about the potential challenges ahead. He has shown great progress, however, by recently returning to the stage for the first time since his diagnosis. Keith’s comeback took place at the People’s Choice Country Awards on September 28, where he sang his song “Don’t Let The Old Man In.”
Faith has played a very important role in Keith coping with the disease. “You take it for granted on the days that things are good, and you lean on it when days are bad,” he said, emphasizing the importance of faith in navigating the difficult days. His journey has taught him to lean on his faith more each day, allowing him to find peace along the way.
“I was going through all the chemo, radiation, surgery, and I got to the point where I was comfortable with whatever happened. I had my brain wrapped around it, and I was in a good spot either way.”
As Toby Keith continues his battle with cancer, his journey and strong faith serves as a source of inspiration for those who are going through similar challenges.
