Toby Keith Dies At Age 62 Following Years-Long Battle With Stomach Cancer

Toby Keith’s songs and albums have quickly taken over the top spots on the iTunes charts following the news of his death.

In the early morning hours of February 6, Keith’s family shared a heartbreaking statement on his social media pages. He died the previous day (February 5) at the age of 62.

Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5, surrounded by his family,” the statement read. “He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.

Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021. He kept the news private for awhile before going public with his diagnosis a few months later.

He then took some time off to focus on his treatments and spend time with his family.

In September 2023, Keith had a big “comeback” after performing at the People’s Choice Country Awards. He was honored with the Country Icon Award, and performed his 2018 song “Don’t Let the Old Man In.”

Its lyrics about aging and mortality hit harder hearing Keith sing them in that moment.

After that performance, “Don’t Let the Old Man In” experienced renewed success. It jumped up the iTunes country songs chart, and was the most-added song at country radio for a time.

Now, “Don’t Let the Old Man In” is back near the top of the iTunes country songs chart following Keith’s death.
