Tom Hanks’ Son, Chet, Calls An RV In Nashville Home

Did you know that Chet Hanks resides in a humble trailer right in Music City?

This might surprise some people. Given his work in music and acting, and the fact that he’s the son of Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and singer Rita Wilson, many would assume Chet lives a more lavish lifestyle.

But, for now, this works for him as he focuses on building his career in country music.

The 35-year-old recently appeared on The Tonight Show and talked about his decision to call a Jayco Eagle RV home.

“I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it,” he tells host Jimmy Fallon. “I didn’t want to do that again, and I didn’t want to furnish it.”

It wasn’t his first idea, though. When he started spending long stretches in Tennessee, he stayed in hotels and Airbnbs, but Chet admits that kind of setup “gets really old.”

“I just like having my own space,” he adds. “I got my kitchen. “I got a walk-in shower…that’s a big deal in trailers.”

Another plus, Chet says, is that the community is actually very peaceful since most of its residents are older.

“I’m probably the youngest person in the trailer park by 30 or 40 years,” Chet says.

“It’s not what you think, you know? You think, oh, you’re gonna live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous. It’s all just, like, retirees, you know? Great people.”

Tom Hanks Watches His Son’s Band At Stagecoach

Chet’s move to Nashville has worked out well so far. He and his band, Something Out West, have already landed some big opportunities, including a recent performance at Stagecoach.

“It was a big deal,” Chet said during his interview on The Tonight Show. “It was only our second performance ever, so I’m trying to play catch-up. I was nervous.”

For any artist, making the festival’s lineup is a major moment, so it’s understandable why Chet was experiencing some nerves. But it probably made him feel more at ease knowing his dad was in the crowd, cheering him on.

In a video captured by another audience member, Tom Hanks can be seen watching his son on stage as he and his band perform “You Better Run.” Tom is even swaying along to the music.
