Gearing up for their eighth series, The Voice UK is on the lookout for the new big talent. For the 2019 competition, coaches Olly Murs, will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson, and Tom Jones went head to head in hopes to bring the winner onto their team.
The four coaches are all incredible talents themselves. Hudson is an American singer and actress who rose to fame after being on the third season of American Idol. She has since received several awards and has produced three certified gold albums. Murs is an English singer-songwriter who began his career on the sixth series of The X Factor. His debut album, Olly Murs, was certified double platinum making him a large name across the UK.
will.i.am got his foot in the music door when he started the band, The Black Eyed Peas. He has since become a producer for several chart-topping artists. Lastly, Jones is a Welsh singer with a career in music for over six decades. The singer has several awards under this belt as well.
For the opening performance of the season, the four coaches came together for one rockin’ performance. Taking on the 1983 hit, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This),” it was the perfect harmony to start the competition off. Accompanied by dancers and bright flashing lights, their rendition came to life. As they walked out onto the stage, the three male judges took over a majority of the vocals until it was Jennifer Hudson’s time to shine.
Jones’ powerhouse vocals resonated across the stage as he lead the other singers along. Right before the bridge, he and Hudson harmonized between verses. As Hudson carried the melody, the male singers kept up the fire with the lyrics.
