Tragic Accident Claims Life Of Beloved Cowgirl Cheyanna Closser

The rodeo community is grieving the sudden death of Cheyanna Closser, a beloved barrel racer, jockey, and attorney.
Cheyanna Closser was killed in a car accident on Tuesday, July 28.
According to reports, a 2021 Freightliner semi-truck pulling an unloaded trailer failed to stop at an intersection and struck Closser’s car, a Chevy Cruz. She was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis, where she later died from her injuries. She was 29.
Closser began her career as a jockey in Indianapolis in 2013, where she earned 66 victories with winnings totaling over $1 million. She later pursued a law degree, becoming an attorney upon graduating from the University of Kentucky.
While practicing as an attorney, Cheyanna owned and competed with barrel-racing horses. She was an IFR56 qualifier, meaning that she was among the Top 15 athletes in her field and qualified to compete at the International Finals Rodeo.
The rodeo world flooded social media with tributes to Closser, who is being remembered as someone who “lived with purpose” and “served others.”
