Trump Accounts officially launched on America’s 250th birthday, July 4, 2026, with the aim of making it easier for parents to invest in the future of their children.

Kicking off the Trump Accounts program, the Federal government is giving $1,000 to all eligible children born from Jan. 1, 2025, to Dec. 31, 2028.

As of July 4, monetary benefits were expanded to include eligible children born between 2016 and 2024, with each receiving $250.

Initially, inclusion in the Trump Accounts program was something that parents had to enroll their child in on their own.

However, in an announcement from the Oval Office made in the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 7, President Donald Trump shared that enrollment for eligible children in the Trump Accounts program will now be automatic.

This expands the enrollment in the investment program by tens of millions of participants, with Trump hopeful that this will “ensure every child has a fair shot at the American dream.”

The timing of this expansion of the Trump Accounts comes as the president, and other Republican legislators, are trying to make the case for Republicans maintaining majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms.

As of July 10, there were approximately 6 million children who had been signed up for Trump Accounts, which were established by the One, Big, Beautiful Bill in 2025.

Announcing that enrollment would now be automatic, Trump said on Oct. 7, “Today, I’m pleased to announce that every single eligible minor child has now been automatically enrolled in a Trump Account.”

The Trump Accounts are a tax reinvestment account, akin to a 401(k), which is expected to “grow over the course of their lives” with the intention of being used “for their benefit” upon turning 18.

“If all goes well, which I think it will, they’ll end up being quite rich by the time they’re 18,” Trump declared.

For eligible children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, the Trump Accounts will automatically have $1,000 invested in them from the United States Treasury.

Through a donation made by Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies, eligible children born between 2016 and 2024 will receive a $250 investment.

Like a 401(k), without investment, the account cannot grow.

Trump said that there were nearly 8 million children enrolled in the program as of Oct. 7, adding, “With today’s announcement, we’re building on that success by 70 million accounts for children across America.”

Since the account program started, Trump said that over $4.5 billion had been contributed into the program.

“Very simply, this money is your child’s future,” Trump said. “In the old days, your child would hit 18 and they don’t have any money, and now they’ll be, potentially, very rich.”

Every year, a Trump Account can receive up to $5,000 in contributions, with these funds coming from parents, businesses, churches, or other parties who wish to invest in the future of a child.

Trump then said, “I’m calling on all employees all across America to follow [the lead of many businesses] and make matching Trump Account contributions. It’s a benefit for every American worker.”

Prior to starting Trump Accounts, the president said that 38% of Americans did not own stock.

“Now, every member of the next generation will have an investment account and will benefit from our booming economy,” Trump said.

Trump Accounts may be managed by parents or legal guardians of a child through the Trump Accounts app, which is accessible on mobile phones.
