University Of Tennessee To Introduce Taylor Swift-Themed Course This Fall

The University of Tennessee is preparing to launch a Taylor Swift-themed course in the upcoming fall semester.

This unique offering will delve into various aspects of the pop star’s influence on popular culture and the music industry. The course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Taylor Swift’s impact on celebrity and career strategies.

Details of the Course

The course, known as Gender/Media (Taylor’s Version), will be led by cinema studies professor Darcey Morris. Scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:10-11:10 a.m., the course aims to explore the broad social, economic, and cultural impacts of Taylor Swift on the media and film industry.

According to The Daily Beacon, the student newspaper of The University of Tennessee, the course will cover topics such as fan culture, celebrity culture, girlhood, music industry ethics, marketing and promotional strategies, social media theory, race, sexuality, and feminism.

“We’ll talk about Taylor Swift from every possible angle,” Morris shared. “With her songs, she expresses so many uniquely feminine experiences. And also just complex human emotions, in ways that are powerful and really resonate with people.”

Professor Morris emphasized the significance of Taylor Swift’s music in expressing uniquely feminine experiences and complex human emotions.

Moreover, the course will not only involve enjoying Swift’s music videos, concerts, and films but also scrutinizing her business decisions, lyrical content, aesthetics, and public persona.
