USDA Investigation Leads To Recall Of Nearly 170,000 Pounds Of Meat

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a recall of nearly 170,000 pounds of various meats, citing concern that the products may be in the refrigerators of American consumers.
These meats were produced by Star Meat Delivery Inc., based out of Lucama, North Carolina, before being sent to a distributor with a nationwide reach.
In total, 167,639 pounds of raw beef, goat, and pork products were recalled on Sept. 22.
The cause for this recall, the USDA says, is because the meats were “produced without the benefit of federal inspection,” adding that they bear labels with a “false USDA mark of inspection.”
The false USDA inspection labels were identified by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) through “surveillance activities.”
Stating that the meats were distributed in bulk with A&D Foods labels, FSIS issued the following guidance:
“Any product bearing the false establishment number “EST. 1363” should be considered misbranded and unsafe to eat.”
While no injuries or illnesses have been reported regarding the recalled meat in question, which was produced and labeled prior to Sept. 22, an FSIS announcement said, “Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk.”
Noting that it is concerned that the recalled meat may be in the refrigerators of consumers or on the shelves of retailers, the FSIS advised:
“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. Retailers and restaurants are urged not to sell or serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
The following is a list of the recalled products — all of which having been individually vacuum packed and placed in cardboard boxes of various weights — as provided by FSIS:
