A Southwest Flight Was Feeling Particularly Patriotic After The Inauguration
On January 20th, Donald Trump became the 47th President of the United States in a ceremony held in the nation’s Capitol. A series of special events involving various musical guests surrounded the inauguration.
Carrie Underwood, Lee Greenwood, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Parker McCollum, and more were among the artists who lent their talents to celebrating the incoming administration.
Many Americans felt increased pride in our country following the events, and one man was particularly inspired to display his patriotism.
In a video originally posted by Old Row, a veteran stands up in front of a full Southwest flight leaving Washington, DC, to lead the passengers in a singalong. While not captured in the clip, it appears the flight staff allowed the man to use the plane’s intercom to amplify his voice.
He passionately sings “God Bless The USA,” and many voices can be heard singing along to the patriotic tune. Watch the video below!

The Role Of “God Bless The USA” In The Inauguration
Lee Greenwood wrote “God Bless The USA” on his tour bus in 30 minutes in 1983. He felt inspired as he processed his feelings about the shooting down of Korean Airlines Flight 007. The song became a staple in films and patriotic celebrations and is considered Greenwood’s signature song.
The celebrated musician performed the song twice during this year’s inaugural events. First, he sang it live as Donald Trump arrived at the “Make America Great Again” Rally on Sunday, January 19th. The following day, Greenwood performed again at the official swearing-in ceremony.
Additionally, Greenwood sang “God Bless The USA” at Trump’s inauguration in 2017 and George H.W. Bush’s in 1989.
