Vice President JD Vance and the Second Lady, Usha Vance, have welcomed their fourth child.
Congratulations are in order for JD Vance and his wife, Usha!
In a joint post shared to social media, JD and Usha Vance announced their son’s birth, saying that their new addition was born on Sunday morning (July 19) at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. They also shared his name – Alec Neel Vance.
“Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” Vance wrote.
About JD and Usha Vance
JD and Usha, who met while attending Yale Law School, married in 2014. They are also parents to sons Ewan (9) and Vivek (6) and daughter Mirabel (4).
In an interview with Moms For America earlier this year, Usha shared how her plans on only having two children changed.
She told the outlet, “I had always wanted to have two kids, and then I thought when I had the second child, I just loved it so much that I wanted to have a third, and that just seemed so clear. But then we had our third child, and it was in the middle of JD’s Senate campaign and then of course our life has been just epic chaos since then.”
She admitted that having a fourth child was “really not on my bingo card at first,” and that JD always wanted another.
“We talked about it a lot,” she said. “And I started to feel this sense of openness to it. And I thought, well, if I’m feeling openness, I should just see whether it happens or not. Give myself a window of possibility.”
She admitted that she would have been happy with whatever the outcome was, but was “really thrilled” to be welcoming another baby.
JD and Usha Vance make history with the birth of their new child.
Baby Alec’s arrival marks the first time since 1870 that a woman has given birth while her husband is a sitting vice president. Previously, Schuyler Colfax, who served as vice president under Ulysses S. Grant, welcomed a son, Schuyler Colfax III, with his wife, Ellen, while he was in office.

The post included two family photos and a close-up of adorable baby Alec.
