The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards Were Held On September 7 – Who Won In The Country Categories?

Megan Moroney is feeling more than just “okay” after the 2025 VMAs.

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, or VMAs, were held on Sunday, September 7, at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The fan-voted awards ceremony honors artists, performances, and music videos from all genres, including country.

Country artists such as Luke Combs, Blake Shelton, Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, and Bailey Zimmerman earned nods in some of the all-genre categories (although none won).

This year also marked the first time the VMAs have ever had a country-specific category. Called Best Country, the category recognized six of the best music videos released in country music over the past year.

The nominees were:

  • Chris Stapleton, “Think I’m In Love With You”
  • Cody Johnson with Carrie Underwood, “I’m Gonna Love You”
  • Jelly Roll, “Liar”
  • Lainey Wilson, “4x4xU”
  • Megan Moroney, “Am I Okay?”
  • Morgan Wallen, “Smile”

Moroney ended up winning for “Am I Okay?” In doing so, she made history as the first artist to win the Best Country Award from the VMAs.

Megan Moroney Thanks The Fans After Her History-Making VMAs Win

CMT caught up with Moroney after her historic win at the VMAs. When asked about the award, she said she was “speechless.”

“I have to give all the credit to my fans, because it is fan-voted. And I always feel like those awards mean a little bit more.”

A little later, she said, “To my fans, y’all are just the best in the world. I get asked a lot what accolade or any sort of award like, means the most to me…it always goes back to you guys and how you relate to my music, and how you scream every syllable of every word on tour. Y’all just make my whole life, and I love y’all very much.”

Moroney said she was happy to be representing country music that evening at the VMAs. Watch her interview with CMT below.

Moroney also performed at the VMAs. She sang a portion of her latest single, “6 Months Later,” on the Extended Play Stage. Watch her performance below.

Congratulations to Megan Moroney on her win at the VMAs!
