On October 27, 1966 CBS debuted the second-ever Peanuts holiday special, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, following the massively successful A Charlie Brown Christmas, which debuted a year prior.
Watching It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a Halloween staple for us, right along with watching Jimmy Kimmel fans torment their kids by taking away their Halloween candy.
Since its debut 57 years ago, the special aired on either CBS or ABC every year until 2020 when Apple TV+ acquired the rights to all the Peanuts catalog. There was a public outcry that year after it was announced that It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown would not air on television for the first time, even though it was available to stream on Apple TV+.
In 2021, Apple TV+ teamed up with PBS and PBS Kids to air the holiday special on TV, which delights the Peanuts gang fans!
