“Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning” was written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Farar and was recorded and released by Willie Nelson as the third single from his 1982 album Always On My Mind.
The song soared to number two on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and has been covered by many country music greats over the years. One of the most well-known re-recordings came from Chris Stapleton, who included a cover of the song on his second studio album, From A Room: Volume 1, in 2016.
