Having both parents in the music business, it’s no surprise that Hank Williams Jr. was raised around many country legends, but did y’all know one of them was his godmother?

“June Carter Cash was my godmother, and me and Johnny [Cash] hunted Civil War artifacts all the time,” Hank Jr. said, according to The Boot. “We loved guns — the old, mostly antique guns. We loved metal detecting when we were looking for stuff. My mother, Audrey Williams, and June Carter were very close friends.”

Because of his close relationship with June and Johnny, there were many opportunities for jam sessions and duets. Luckily for us, Hank Jr. and Johnny performed a duet together on an episode of The Johnny Cash Show in 1970.

Singing the ever-classic Luke the Drifter aka Hank Williams song “Just Waitin’,” Johnny and Bocephus traded off lyrics on the sing-talk verses.

As they were alternating lines, Johnny accidentally sang Hank Jr.’s line at one point. Hank Jr. whispered to him, “It’s yours,” to assure Johnny that he was not upset by this. A performance such as this one really makes us wish we could go back in time to witness more now-iconic performances.
