1923, a prequel series to Yellowstone, is in its second (and potentially final) season. The sixth episode of the season debuted on Paramount+ on Sunday (March 30).

Titled โ€œThe Mountain Teeth of Monsters,โ€ the show ended with the deaths of several fan-favorite characters. The dramatic and devastating losses have set the stage for the season finale on April 6.

The episode resulted in the loss of the British couple who attempted to help Alexandra get to Montana. They succumbed to the cold after running out of gas on their journey. Alexandra is still alive and on a quest to make it to Montana to reunite with her husband, Spencer Dutton.

Pete Plenty Clouds was shot and killed by Marshal Kent, and Kent was then killed by Father Renaud. Sadly, Father Renaud killed Teonna Rainwaterโ€™s father, Runs His Horse, as well. Teonna finally got her long-sought revenge when she killed Father Renaud shortly after.

However, the devastation didnโ€™t end there. One of the main Dutton family members also lost their life.

In a shocking scene, Jack Dutton was gunned down after being intercepted by two of Whitfieldโ€™s men as he took off, alone, to try and help his great-uncle Jacob while awaiting Spencerโ€™s arrival. His sudden death is made even more heartbreaking considering the fact that he just learned his wife, Elizabeth, is pregnant.

Thereโ€™s long been speculation that Jack is the grandfather of Yellowstoneโ€˜s John Dutton. If thatโ€™s the case, it means that Johnโ€™s dad never got to know his father (Jack).

After Episode 6 of 1923 debuted, Darren Mann, who played Jack, shared his reaction to his characterโ€™s death. He told The Hollywood Reporter:

โ€œItโ€™s a tough one. When I read it, I went through all sorts of emotions. I was angry at first. I was pissed off. I was sad. I really grieved him in a whole bunch of different ways because I love playing Jack so much. Heโ€™s such a beautiful characterโ€ฆSo I was definitely saddened, because I just love playing this character.โ€

Mann said he learned about his characterโ€™s death in 1923 when he read through the seasonโ€™s scripts. He said:

โ€œI read through and eventually got to that page and was like, โ€˜Well, God damn, there it is. Okay.โ€™ I went into the show figuring as much โ€” itโ€™s like playing Russian roulette with five bullets on a Taylor Sheridan show. The chances of making it out are not looking that great! So I kind of expected that I might go, but itโ€™s still a shock when you finally read it.โ€

Mann also shared what he knows about the season finale now, without Jack. He says he has โ€œall sorts of feelingsโ€ about how things unfold.

โ€œItโ€™s a beautiful ending. Itโ€™s great writing. I canโ€™t wait to see it come together,โ€ Mann said.
