16-Year-Old Pays Homage To Keith Whitley With Captivating ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ Cover

A talented 16-year-old from Mason County, West Virginia, completely floored his audience with a raw and powerful rendition of country music legend Keith Whitley’s timeless ballad “Don’t Close Your Eyes”.

Young Coltyn Hendrick took the stage with a friend to perform for an eager audience at Clay Center in Charleston, West Virginia. In a time when pop country is taking over the radio airwaves, Hendrick proved that traditional country isn’t dead with his incredible cover.

Whitley released “Don’t Close Your Eyes” as the third single on his album of the same name in 1988. It climbed the charts and reached the coveted No. 1 spot and has become one of the most iconic songs in country music history.
