There’s just something about Christian hymns. They are comforting, uplifting, and rarely heard anymore. Whether you’re a regular church-goer or not, chances are good that you know the words to the songs you learned during Sunday School or your grandmother taught you some of her favorites when you were a kid.
Believe it or not, country music roots can be traced back to the church with most artists getting their start singing in the church. Numerous country artists have recorded gospel albums or performed gospel songs over the years, including Loretta Lynn, Alabama, and Alan Jackson. And, who could forget Carrie Underwood‘s stunning rendition of “How Great Thou Art” from the ACM Girl’s Night Out special?
In the video below, Nashville-based gospel group Anthem Lights mashes up three old hymns: “How Great Thou Art”, “It Is Well”, and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. No frills. No bells and whistles. Just pure vocals set to basic accompaniment. The result is breathtaking! Watch the video below and let us know what you think!
