Before she pleaded guilty to felony theft of property and her sex scandal was formally exposed, Nashville’s longtime mayor, Megan Barry, helped save a country singer from a “terrifying” situation.
Barry resigned from her post as Mayor of Nashville on Tuesday, March 6th, 2018, and also entered a guilty plea after an investigation revealed she may have engaged in an affair with her bodyguard – who was paid with city funds that included $170,000 for overtime.
She has agreed to reimburse the city $11,000 in restitution as part of her agreement and will spend three years on probation, but that doesn’t quite tell the full story of Barry’s time in office.
As one country singer reveals, while Barry held the title of Mayor, she did some incredible things – even with the assistance of her bodyguard, Sgt. Rob Forrest.
“I get why it had to be this way, but I’m very sad Megan Barry is resigning,” Maren Morris wrote on Twitter.
Morris has been a fresher face in country music, but amassed a huge following and built great success with her debut album, Hero. She also earned a number one hit with “I Could Use A Love Song.”
According to Morris, years ago she was dealing with one of the scariest threats of being a public figure: a stalker. When this terrifying issue arose for her, she says, both Barry and Forrest stepped up to the plate and helped rescue her from it.
“As the mayor of Music City, she always came to shows. Years ago, she and Sgt. Forrest helped me by taking care of a really terrifying stalker issue I had. I felt safer as an artist in Nashville.”
While public opinion on Megan Barry differs for a number of reasons, it’s no doubt that she did the right thing in this case.
