Like so many people, Carrie Underwood is mourning the loss of Dolly Parton.

Parton passed away on August 25 at the age of 80. A few days later, Underwood had a show at the Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts.

A clip shared on social media shows Underwood taking the stage while wearing a special jacket in tribute to Parton. It was customized with her initials on the back, along with some butterflies and a classic Parton quote, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

You can also get a closer look at the jacket in the following photos that Underwood shared after the concert.

Later in the show, Underwood delivered a short speech reflecting on Parton’s passing and her extraordinary legacy. She got choked up as she said:

“[I want to] acknowledge and pour my love out for not just a huge influence to so many of us, but just one of the nicest people I think I’ve ever met on this planet. It is such a shock, I feel like, to the whole world…it’s like time just stood still…But she’s just one that transcends all space and all time.”

Underwood continued to say that although Parton is gone, she will always live on in our hearts. Then, as she introduced her next song, she said:

“I know where she is. I know how much she loved Jesus. But right now we’re gonna do a song that is very important to me and, I feel like it fits the moment. We all have somebody in our lives that is no longer with us, but we know that we will see them again.”

She ended her speech by calling on everyone to hold up their phones and light up the entire room for “Miss Dolly.”

From there, Underwood launched into a tear-jerking performance of her song “See You Again.” The powerful hit from 2013 has Underwood singing about reuniting with someone in heaven after their death.

It was a fitting song for her to sing in tribute to Parton. Watch that moment below.

Carrie Underwood Previously Shared A Moving Tribute To Dolly Parton

Carrie Underwood joined the dozens of country artists who shared tributes to Dolly Parton immediately after her death. She posted a series of photos of the two of them together through the years, including several from their onstage collaborations.

Her caption read:

“She’s not gone. I know exactly where she is. She was the epitome of faith, grace, talent, beauty and humor. She had a humble heart for Jesus and made everyone around her feel special,”

Noting how Parton was likely the one person that everyone in the world adored and agreed on, Underwood said:

“She was a one of one and no one will ever come close. It’s alright to be sad that this world lost a legend, but heaven gained an angel. Well done, good and faithful Dolly. Welcome home.”
