Carrie Underwood made magic out of an awkward moment during Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
Donald Trump officially took the oath of office to become the 47th president of the United States Monday (January 20), and Carrie Underwood was there to help mark the historic moment.
His swearing-in ceremony was held inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda due to frigid weather in Washington, D.C. It was slated to feature a performance by Carrie Underwood along with the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club prior to the presidential oath of office.
According to official documents from the AP News, Carrie Underwood was expected to perform “America the Beautiful” before Trump’s inaugural address and the administering of the presidential oath.

No official statement has explained the change in plans; however, it occurred, and Carrie Underwood did not perform before the oath or the inaugural address, leaving some fans to wonder if she would perform at all.
Carrie Underwood’s Performance Of “America the Beautiful”
To everyone’s delight, after Trump’s inaugural address, Underwood was announced and made her way into the Capitol Rotunda.
She prepared for her planned “America the Beautiful” performance and was positioned in front of the 46th president of the United States, Joe Biden, and his vice president, Kamala Harris.
Holding the microphone in hand, she patiently waited as the time ticked by, seemingly anticipating the music to begin.
When the music started, it was abruptly shut off. Despite the silence in the room, which grew increasingly awkward, she remained composed while waiting for the music to resume.
Carrie took matters into her own hands.
As it became evident that the music would not play, she bravely chose to sing a cappella. She addressed the audience and said, “If you know the words, help me out here.”
At first, she was alone, but in a moving and patriotic moment, the rest of the room joined in, including former President Biden, Vice President Harris, and President Trump, exemplifying a spirit of unity.
The entire room sang together as one. Video captured by Oklahoma Senator James Lankford shows Underwood singing and the crowd can be heard singing along, resulting in a chilling and powerful moment.
Viewers called it a “moment of unity” and a “rare moment” as politicians and dignitaries joined their voices together to sing “America The Beautiful.”
