Chris Stapleton Lands Fourth Career #1 Hit With “White Horse”

Chris Stapleton’s “White Horse” was the lead single from his album Higher 

“White Horse” has been dominating the airwaves in recent weeks. The song was released by Chris Stapleton in July 2023 as the first single from his fifth studio album, Higher. Stapleton co-wrote “White Horse” with Dan Wilson and co-produced it with his wife Morgane Stapleton and Dave Cobb.

The album Higher, which Stapleton dedicated to his wife Morgane, made its debut on November 10, 2023. Less than two weeks later, landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. The move dethroned Morgan Wallen’s album One Thing At A Time, which spent an impressive 29 weeks at the top of the chart.

“White Horse” rises to the top of the charts 

“White Horse” showed promise right out of the gate, and this week, it topped the Mediabase chart, which is one of two charts that labels use to officially track their song performance (along with the U.S. Billboard Country Airplay chart). 

“White Horse” is right in Stapleton’s wheelhouse and showcases the bluesy sound and gritty vocals that he has become known for. A portion of the lyrics read: 

This love is gettin’ kind of dangerous /Feels like it’s a loaded gun /My-my, it’s turning like a cloud of dust /My heart always wants to run /

Chris Stapleton scores his fourth career No. 1 hit with “White Horse”  

This recent achievement marks the fourth career No. 1 hit for Stapleton. In addition to “White Horse,”  the following songs also landed the country-rocker on top: 

  • “You Should Probably Leave” (February 2022) 
  • “Starting Over” (April 2021) 
  • “Tennessee Whiskey” (November 2015)
