Chris Stapleton Rewards Patient Fans With New Song After Lengthy Weather Delay

Some artists perform truncated shows after weather delays, but then there’s Chris Stapleton.
Rather than punishing fans for having the misfortune of attending a show marked by rough weather, Stapleton instead rewarded their dedication.
“Nobody left, look at you,” Chris Stapleton remarked as he arrived onstage before a packed Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Performing a new song he said he finished writing with two of his children backstage only 10 minutes prior, fans in Cincinnati got to see, firsthand, Stapleton’s talents as a musician and artist.

The concert on Aug. 1 was set to begin at 6 p.m., but a powerful storm system blew through the area, forcing a weather delay.
Starting at 6:45 p.m., one of the opening acts, Allen Stone, was dropped from the show to make room for Lainey Wilson and headliner Chris Stapleton, according to local WLWT News 5.
Following Lainey’s set, around 8 p.m., attendees were told to seek shelter, with storm sirens blaring.
Finally, about two hours later around 10 p.m., Stapleton took the stage, and he expressed his gratitude to fans through song.
Prefacing his performance, Stapleton told the audience, “While we were on the rain delay, we sat backstage and we wrote a song.”
He also said, “This is a special song for you … but I feel like you guys have earned it.”
Starting in a manner that calls to mind Bill Withers’ iconic 1971 song “Ain’t No Sunshine,” Stapleton’s new song quickly finds its own sound, allowing for powerful guitar solos and more.
Lyrically, the song begins with Stapleton singing, “Everybody’s taking cover, sometimes rain won’t ever stop. Time rolls by, like a long lost lover.”
The chorus finds Stapleton singing that he’s “waiting on rotten skies.”
At one point, the whole crowd cheered as he gave a shoutout to Cincinnati.
