Many country music fans were hopeful that one of the themed evenings would honor Dolly Parton, who passed away on August 25. There’s still room for a Dolly-themed night on October 13, or contestants may sprinkle Dolly tributes throughout the season.
In fact, Julia Stiles and her professional partner, Ezra Sosa, already honored Dolly by performing their first dance of the season to her hit song “9 to 5.”
Stay tuned to see if a Dolly-themed night comes to fruition on Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars! In the meantime, tune in to the video below to learn more about the themes that have been announced so far.
What Happened During The Season 35 Premiere Of Dancing With The Stars?
The new season of Dancing with the Stars kicked off with a two-night premiere on September 15 and 16. Co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro returned to the ballroom, as did judges Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli.
DWTS traditionally refrains from eliminating anyone during premiere week. But for the first time since 2018, the show switched things up with a double elimination in Week 1.
The male celebrities danced during the premiere episode on September 15, which ended with Conner Leavitt and Adele Zaikman (winner of Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro) being eliminated.
There was a bit of a technical meltdown on opening night, as the online voting platform crashed. Julianne encouraged viewers to vote via text during that time. Later, Alfonso confirmed they were still having technical issues with online voting, and that only votes received via text would be counted that night and the following evening.
The female celebrities took their turn on the dance floor on September 16. That episode ended with Sarah Jane Nader and Hailey Bill’s elimination from the competition.
Now that the premiere is over, DWTS will resume its typical one-episode-a-week format. New episodes will air every Tuesday at 8/7c on ABC. The episodes can be streamed on Hulu the following day (Wednesday).
Which themed night are you looking forward to the most this season?
