on

The category was “Remembering Dolly Parton,” but one viewer put it well, writing on Instagram that the contestants played it as if it was “Forgetting Dolly Parton.”
During the Sept. 30 broadcast of the long-running quiz show Jeopardy!, contestants seemed to have a knowledge blindspot that included Dolly Parton.
Still, some of the clues were correctly answered, but the ones they got wrong were surprising…

Country music icon Dolly Parton died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80.
Honoring her multi-faceted career and legacy, the clues on the Sept. 30 episode of Jeopardy! covered a wide range of aspects of who Dolly was, all under the category title of “Remembering Dolly Parton.”
Included in the “Double Jeopardy” round, returning 2-day champion Justin Robbins took on the first clue, valued at $1,200.
The clue read:
“Part of Dolly’s motivation to open Dollywood in this town near where she grew up was to celebrate regional culture.”
Robbins responded correctly, with, “What is Pigeon Forge?”
The next clue, however, stumped the contestants.
Valued at $800, the clue was:
“In 1980 Dolly made her big screen acting debut in this film; almost 30 years later, she wrote the songs for the Broadway musical.”
None of them knew the correct response, of “What is ‘9 to 5’?”
To this, Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings looked surprised.
Moving forward, Robbins selected the clue valued at $1,600, which proved to be the “Daily Double.”
Robbins wagered $3,000, and the clue was:
“Inspired by a patchwork garment that her mother made for her from rags, Dolly wrote this song, a personal favorite.”
Giving an incorrect answer, Robbins said, “What is ‘Jolene’?”
As it was the “Daily Double,” Jennings then provided the correct response of the 1971 song “Coat of Many Colors.”
Robbins then selected the $2,000 clue, which was:
“One of Dolly’s proudest accomplishments was establishing her book-gifting program with this 2-word name.”
Responding correctly, Robbins said, “What is the Imagination Library?”
Dolly Parton established the Imagination Library in 1995, sending a free book in the mail each month to children all over the country who are under the age of five.

The final unanswered clue, valued at $400, was:
“Dolly’s rise to fame began after she partnered with Porter Wagoner; going solo, she left him with this now-famous song.”
Buzzing in, contestant Kristin Franke incorrectly answered, “What is ‘Jolene’?”
Robbins then answered, “What is ‘I Will Always Love You’?”
Ultimately, Robbins’ 2-day winning streak came to an end, as Franke won in “Final Jeopardy, earning a total of $8,900.
Responses online to the contestants struggling with this category proved to be quite entertaining.
On Instagram, one person commented, “Well, she said that she wanted to be remembered for the books, and that was 1/2 of the answers they actually knew.”
Another wrote, “They didn’t remember 9 to 5???! OPEN THE SCHOOLS.”
One other Instagram user mocked the repeated incorrect answers, writing, “‘What is JOLENE’ ?!?!!! TWICE?!???!!!”
Even the official Dollywood Instagram account commented, writing, “We got them all right.”
