Sample Of Drake’s Cover Of “Choosin’ Texas” Has Fans Wondering If The Rapper Is Going Country
on

After Drake was spotted at Ella Langley‘s Aug. 22 show in Little Rock, Arkansas, there has been increased attention on the rapper’s interest in country music.
Whether it’s him quoting George Strait in a song he released 15 years ago on his second album, or his decision to give Morgan Wallen a cameo in one of his music videos, it’s undeniable that Drake is interested in music that has a little twang.
Now, it appears as if Drake may be more than just a fan of country, as the artist could be dipping his toes in the genre.
This is evidenced by new video that shows Drake sharing a sample of what sounds like his own yet-to-be-released cover of Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas.”

Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” is huge.
Drake’s interest in Ella Langley speaks to just how big her song is.
Of course, “the song”Choosin’ Texas” is currently on a record-setting streak.
As of the week beginning on Aug. 30, “Choosin’ Texas” is No. 1 for its 20th non-consecutive week, setting an all-new record.
In which by hitting 20 weeks at No. 1, Langley has bested both Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road,” which both were No. 1 for 19 weeks, Billboard noted.
Mariah Carey’s 1994 holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is presently ahead of “Choosin’ Texas” by just two weeks at No. 1, with 22 non-consecutive stints at No. 1 beginning at Christmastime in 2019.
Could a studio-recorded cover of “Choosin’ Texas” by Drake top the charts? That remains to be seen… and will depend on if Drake releases this song.
On Aug. 31, a video shared to X, formerly Twitter, showing Drake DJing at a club in his home turf of Toronto, Canada.
His version is in keeping with his well-established sound, so it’s not much of a departure for him artistically, but it is lyrically in the realm of country.
Responding to the sample of the cover as heard in the video, one X user wrote, “Oh this is FIRE … Drake in his country bag.”
Another wrote, “Knew the boy was going country.”
If he is going to release his version of “Choosin’ Texas,” it will come shortly after his simultaneous release of three albums back on May 15: ICEMAN, Maid of Honour, and Habibti.
Notably, for two weeks Drake’s “Janice STFU” topped the charts, even over “Choosin’ Texas,” but Langley made her way back to No. 1 shortly after.
Maybe they can share some credit at the top?
