A convicted murderer serving a life sentence at a prison in Tennessee made a bold escape on Oct. 25, and he was on the run for about nine days.

After more than a week of searching, and several increases to a monetary reward, Jacob Allen Morley, 28, was apprehended.

However, he was not found in Tennessee.

Updating the public on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said that Morley had been captured in Kansas City, Missouri.

The search was described by TBI as having a “successful conclusion,” with safety being emphasized.

In 2022, Jacob Morley was found guilty of First-Degree Murder, and was sentenced in 2025 to life in prison.

At the time of his escape on Sunday, Oct. 25, Morley was serving that life sentence at the Northwest Correctional Complex, which is a prison located in West Tennessee in Tiptonville.

With that life sentence, Morley’s escape added urgency for him to be returned to custody, with authorities advising that he “should be considered dangerous.”

Initially, a reward of up to $2,500 was offered by the TBI for information leading to his arrest, with the agency placing him on the TBI’s Most Wanted list.

On Oct. 28, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and the U.S. Marshals chipped in to the reward as well, bringing the full reward value to $15,000 for tips leading to Morley’s arrest.

By Oct. 29, the reward went up to $17,500, thanks to TBI.

His getaway vehicle was found in Marion, Illinois, which is approximately 118 miles from the prison he escaped from in Tiptonville, Tennessee.

The locating of this getaway vehicle was aided by the TBI sharing surveillance footage of the moment that Morley escaped in the truck.

The video, which notes the time was about 11:01 p.m. (CT) on Oct. 25, showed Morley approach a white 2008 Ford F-350, emblazoned with the Lindamood Planting Company logo on its doors.

The video, at first, shows Morley try to enter the passenger side of the truck. With no luck, he then walks around the truck to the driver’s side. There, he can be seen seemingly getting in with no trouble.

After a moment in the dark, the light in the truck’s cabin can be seen briefly being turned on, with the windshield wipers being activated before Morley drives away.

CNN reported that footage from the prison revealed that Morley had “breached the perimeter fence,” but specifics as to how this was accomplished were not disclosed.

By the afternoon of Oct. 27, the truck was found in Marion, Illinois, but Morley was nowhere to be found.

After several days without updates on Morley’s whereabouts, it was announced that he had been captured in Kansas City, Missouri, on Nov. 3.

This is a developing story.
